NOEL's first Singing for Fun group for children was formed in 1996. These have now expanded to groups for anyone whatever their age.

Sessions for children are held during term time both in school and out of school at various venues. They are open to any child aged between 4-11 years. Contact us for a group near you and don’t worry if there isn’t one….we can always set a new one up subject to getting enough children!

However we can now offer Singing for Fun to all ages, we are currently running sessions in the workplace to develop teamwork and healthy living and are expanding this with two successful groups in operation for the over 50's! The benefits are amazing!

All groups are run by tutors using principles established by the Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodály, which develop singing potential and musicianship. The sessions include musical games and movement. 

The value of this project is huge, but the following comments are some of the main reasons why we think this project has been so successful:

  • Anyone can do it! Singing is an activity open to everyone - it requires no investment in instruments - you carry your voice with you!
  • We are less tense! When people sing together they have to learn to listen to one another - a sociable and valuable lesson which benefits everyone.
  • Improves the mind! Learning to work with rhythm, pulse and words - helps in the academic progress with literacy, numeracy and the learning of languages.
  • More co-operative! Through singing together and understanding how to listen, we can learn to be more co-operative and more caring towards others.
  • A socially inclusive activity! Anyone can come. Everyone joins in. Nobody feels left out!
