Don’t Just Sit There – 2012 Cultural Olympiad

Over the last six months, the YYC have been involved with the Don’t Just Sit There project which is part of the i move programme; an initiative set up to create a cultural legacy within Yorkshire for the 2012 Olympic Games.

In collaboration with Leeds Youth Choir, Leeds Youth Percussion Ensemble and the Benton Park Singers, the choir have worked with London-based composer Stuart Wood to create a brand new composition celebrating Olympic spirit entitled ‘When I Move…’

The finished anthem has been awarded a coveted Inspire Mark by London 2012, officially becoming part of the Cultural Olympiad. As a result, many high-profile sporting events are requesting live performances by our young musicians such as the opening ceremony of the European Fencing Championships in Sheffield last July.

The most recent performance was at the North of England Education Conference at the Royal Armouries, Leeds on 4th January 2012.
